Abstract
Heart rate Variability (HRV) is a measurement of variations in heartbeats within a specific timeframe. There are several references indicating that the higher value of HRV is due to the aerobic exercise pertaining to cardiovascular training. Kho-Kho is the traditional game having origin in this country. The game requires an evenly poised capacity of both aerobic as well as anaerobic system. There are no such study has been found till date regarding the measurement of HRV and also existence of relationship between anaerobic capacity with HRV. In the present study 30 male university level Kho-Kho players having training age of 4years and above were selected. Anaerobic capacity variables i.e. Maximum anaerobic power, Fatigue index and phosphate recovery were measured by Rapid Anaerobic Sprint Test and Phosphate mediated Recovery test. HRV were measured by logarithmic value of Root mean sum of square distance (LnRMSSD) of RR intervals obtained from 12 lead multichannel Bio Pack ECG machine recordings. It was observed from the Pearson product moment correlation that positive correlation exists between HRV and Maximum power which was significant below 0.01 level(r=0.68, P<.01) and there was a negative significant correlation exists between HRV and Fatigue index which was significant below 0.01 level(r= -0.26, P<.01). The results indicates that Higher the HRV value greater will be the anaerobic power generation and lesser will be the fatigue level. The reason is due to higher HRV is contributed by greater parasympathetic dominance causing longer inter beat intervals contributing to greater anaerobic power generation.
